Antique Nippon M Morimura Noritake Signed Hand Painted Roses Plate with Gold Handles and Edges.
Soft pink roses and pretty foliage decorate this hand painted plate.
An antique with the "M" in wreath backstamp and the word "Nippon". Nippon was commonly used as the country of origin for Japan after the 1891 McKinley Tariff Act required imported goods to be marked for the country of origin. (The "M" is for Morimura Brothers which was a Japanese export company and they used the wreath from their family crest as their logo.) Morimura and others founded Noritake in 1904. The Noritake backstamp wasn't registered for use in Japan until 1908 and in the U.S. until 1911 which would date this plate between 1891 and 1911.
Condition : The pastel colors of the roses and foliage are quite vivid. Very little wear on the gold trim. Slight imperfections on the surface and the glaze.
Measures 11 inches from handle to handle.
