ORNATE ART DECO STYLE 1930's VINTAGE VOLUPTE COMPACT WITH BIRD MOTIF IN ENAMEL

Years ago, women used to have their foundation specially made to match their skin tone. When you see this compact in person you'll be able to easily imagine a time when this used to take place. The details of the antelope, bird & elephant motif on this circa 1930's gold tone VOLUPTE compact are amazing. They are thrown into relief by the application of white enamel to the pitted gold surface on both sides. (I believe it is made of brass but I'm not sure). You'll find bright shades of cerulean blue, red & other enamel colors used to show off the unique motif on this 3" square compact. Persian miniatures appear to have influenced the design on this beautiful vintage compact. In turn, they were influenced by Byzantine culture. The compact is clean with no chips or worn areas or enamel that I can see. It is in great used condition and is marked VOLUPTE etched inside. The puff, of course, is relatively clean except for age and there isn't any foundation residue.
