Here we have a small, wooden, antique seed box dating somewhere between 1820-1890. Used as a “silent salesman” they were decorated with paper florals usually on the interior top cover, and left open with the shop owner filled with various colorful flower seed packets - and then replenished when needed. This one is from Rices - or the Jerome B Rice Co in Cambridge, New York. Most boxes were picked up by the grower at the end of the season so these are becoming more rare every day. Again, this one is a smaller size, and measures 4” tall and then about 5” square. Not sure what type of wood it is perhaps walnut or pine. Old Victorian metal closure. At this point, this Victorian seed box is about 200 years old. Therefore it’s in time worn condition and has been stored for many many years. Wood has some scratching as shown. Slight traces of Victorian dirt can be seen inside. What you see is what you will receive. I have included a picture of one for sale currently on another site which is a high dollar item but in better condition.
