Versatile multipurpose bowl/baking dish by regional redware pottery artist Olive Welden. Olive was born in Canada but raised in Pennsylvania where she began making Pennsylvania Dutch style motto pottery. She later moved to Tennessee but primarily sold her pottery in Seagrove NC, which is where you now will find most of it. She died in the early 1960s so this piece is at least that old. Features an incised motto on one side, "When we on simple rations sup - how easy is the washing up" and a distelfink type bird and folk style tulip flowers on the other. Signed on the side and the bottom. She advertised these as oven safe. Approx size: 7" w x 3.5" h, great for quiche or souffle Condition: Excellent, one tiny chip in the rim - see photos. Keats said "A thing of beauty is a joy forever". Each of us has a different idea of what "beauty" is. I find unique vintage items and offer them to you, the beholder. Have you found your thing of beauty?
