PAUL HARRIS DESIGN LADIES' LUX BLAZER Paul Harris Stores Inc. was incorporated on the eighth of April, 1952. The company was founded by Gerald Paul and Earl Harris. The business originally began when the two began selling prepackaged apparel, and their operation was actually called Packaged Apparel. In 1954, Gerald Paul, at the age of 30, and Earl Harris, who was 37, established the company's first store in Plainfield, Indiana Stripmall located on U.S. route 40. The town it was in was just outside of Indianapolis, Indiana. The store sold clothing that would appeal to the whole family and featured late hours (open until 9 p.m.) and air conditioning, a marvel that it was in a store at the time. With such a good location and products, the store expanded its size in the same spot. The strip mall that it was in was anchored by a drug store and a supermarket. Gradually, more stores started to appear. In the 1970s, Paul Harris wanted to be known as a clothing store for young swingers. They carried trendy styles that were popular in those days. Things were going quite well when a literal disaster struck. On June 18, 1978, a tornado hit Indianapolis, smashing the company's distribution center and shutting down company headquarters. The company had to find warehouses to store all of the lost stock. It took over two years to settle the matter with the company's insurance. The tornado caused a shortage of merchandise throughout the chain, and many shelves remained unfilled for a while
