Ladies seriously, doesn't this make you stop and think? Selling and buying used make up, it's a dangerous thing . Why take a chance on using something you have no idea who or where it really came from. You may think it won't happen to you, I bet she thought the same thing.

Wow...thanks for posting this. I always try to be cautious but it's very annoying cus I live with people who don't take me seriously. Just because something looks clean doesn't mean it is. Wish the best for that woman, how sad
jwittich
@miami_wife, thank you for posting, this is really serious. I used to work for Avon Mfg. and this was a big no no. They could not stress enough about contamination in used makeup or brushes. Ladies please don't use someone else's makeup or brushes.
mytherapy
So scary!!! @miami_wife 😱

@jess9316 , people think nothing bad will ever happen to them. I've had my own share of unfortunate circumstances come my way in life. It's a hard road sometimes 😊
milo6456
@bellasbeauties I totally agree! I see so many ppl, especially young girls (which PM should look at closer), selling USED makeup-how nasty is that! It's disgusting & makes me sick!!! You're not even supposed to share makeup with your friends, much less sale it to strangers! Why is Poshmark allowing this to continue??? & do ppl not know the dangers of infections? I'm glad you posted this, hopefully more ppl will read & catch on.
iheartvspink
I have seen used MASCARA on here even. I report it every time. And I have to bite my tongue really hard not to say something nasty to them. Cmon people buy your make up at Ulta! If you don't like it they let you return it. Don't re sell!!! Nasty.
bellasbeauties
@chloe99, look at this
bellasbeauties
@chloe99 sorry wrong person

Yes even if it's listed as only used to swatch, you don't know that for sure. I only consider buying things that are still factory sealed. Just like food or anything else we use in this world. You should never buy or use anything with the seal removed or broken. Great idea to post this.
ericabc
As a licensed cosmetologist this is a huge deal. Sanitation is so incredibly important. Do not buy used makeup!!! You wouldn't buy a used lollipop, so don't buy used lipsticks. Should be common sense. I understand wanting to have a Chanel or a Dior lipstick in your bag, and only have to spend $10... But the price you pay for infection is so much more.@bellasbeauties great post!!!

@puddpudd0 , did you know bodysuits , unless they're nwt are unsupported ? I had one that I word for an hour, and had it as my first HP, they told me wasn't allowed . After I begged them to look at my closet to become a SU. they told me that was the reason I was denied and told me to fix my closet then they'd re look after 45 days. I think it was just an excuse ,I've seen so may new gals , hosting and becoming SU , after only a couple of months time.
bellasbeauties
@puddpudd0 , thanks my friend. I know, well mine was a t-shirt style body suit. But it was a HP and I didn't think much about it at the time.

@nassimp , hope I spelt your name correctly
nassimp
@bellasbeauties yes! I think people who have some skin or any type of problems shouldn't allow themselves to sell or give their makeup.
bellasbeauties
@wilcla40. This is a huge reason not o use or sell used make up. No matter if you might think it's clean or you've sanitized it somehow...

@bellasbeauties what's the difference between makeup and your used sweatpants that have had contact with your vulva and your buttock? For that matter your blouses that have been in your armpit. Places that are known to have bacteria, ecoli, etc. or your used shoes that could possible have fungus? Thanks! Have a wonderful day!

@liz3, posh78, look how foolish this girl is about used make up, versus used clothing . What a joke!!!!!!
liz3
@bellasbeauties something's are too obvious & ridiculous for a response, my dear friend. Lol
bellasbeauties
@liz3, to late couldn't help myself today. Go to her closet and look at her first pic a colorful dress.
bellasbeauties
@poshlove78, look at the girl who thinks she knows it all..
poshlove78
@liz3 & Bella she deleted...or Posh did. It was real quick though so probably her. Some people just don't understand that. Even though everyone sees themselves as a 'non germ carrier' Everyone has germs. Plus they grow. I forgot her name but besides the insults to my friends.THANK YOU FOR DOING THE RIGHT THING
liz3
Lol well.... That problem solved ha. I sell great ONLY NEW Make-up too if anyone needs any plus inventory (also new) not listed, I make custom bundles. 😋💕👍💃💃💃
queenhorsfall
But when you go to do make up or nails or hair, they always use items that been used before on others. Where did you find this article?
queenhorsfall
Just curious. Would love share it too
shugahs
Woooow, this poor lady! Prayers going up for her healing and strength and for her family as well!
karenbatx
I hadn't thought about this issue in years until @lnp916 posted about it. Made me stop and think.
My bf caught a staph infection from a guy at work... it was a little piece of hell that took a month to recover.
Then another friend had nasty bumps pop up all over one side of her face... staph.
My 36 yr old sil just got out of ICU with pneumonia... we think she got sick sharing drinks with friends. She nearly died.
I'm done. If it ain't sealed, I ain't buyin. Or selling.
karenbatx
Btw, I learned back in health class in high school that you don't share eye makeup bc of pink eye. Maybe that other chick was absent that day?
And for your sweatpants touching your vulva and buttocks, I wear panties. My sweatpants have never even met my a$$ except through my underwear lol.
bellasbeauties
@bluesheep , so many ladies , Just don't get it. I JUST WANT TO MAKE OTHERS AWARE OF THINGS THAT CAN HAPPEN NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE.. This is a bit different , 32 years ago I was literally run over by an eighteen wheeler truck, when I was only 15. At that time does anyone think, I thought that was gonna happen to me? NO . 10 months in the hospital and 100 surgeries. God was watching over me , Life I'd so hard. Why take such a foolish little chance you can easily AVOID...
donisalon7
@bellasbeauties @manish and all that commented on this great post. Posh is a great site for doing just what is was created to do. Buying used make up IS AND NEVER WILL BE A GREAT IDEA! Pink eye is caused by contact with fecal matter. If you have symptoms, please see a doctor. Buying used facial creams, moisturizer, face masks Etc IS AND NEVER WILL BE A GOOD IDEA. Herpes can be transmitted in these products.
donisalon7
@bellasbeauties @manish Clothing can be laundered or dry cleaned which will kill any bacteria/pathogens. Blood stained items- NOT ACCEPTABLE, return and file complaints with posh.
We have seen all types of items being sold on posh, BREAST PUMPS, BABY FORMULA, USED ADULT ITEMS, ETC, we as a posh community need to report theses items and use common sense. Most of these types of sellers lack judgement and are ignorant of posh standards and simple common courtesy.
brittneyb125
@bellasbeauties this is a great post!! I see used makeup being sold on here all the time and I'm just want to say noo please stop so unsafe
bellasbeauties
@sharlovesasale.
bellasbeauties
@sharlovesalex, it's all personal I'm not upset that your asking at all. Used make up does make me worry a bit. Used bras , I don't care for. Like I said it's all what your choice is to do with your own closet. I'm always around if you want to talk or ask me any other questions. I don't mind at all.
sharlovesalex
That's cool, thanks for sharing. I just see it so much, so I wasn't sure why Posh doesn't step in, but maybe there are too many users doing it! Yes, that's my baby boy in the pics...he's a handful at 7 months! Thank you. 😊
janiernr
As an RN for several years, I so agree with this posting..I am new to Poshmark, but not to sanitation, cleanliness, and infections...I actually do work as a Quality Assurance and Infection Control nurse. This posting you have should be taken very seriously! Thanks for posting.

Oh, how awful!!!
bellasbeauties
@gardenofreason , isn't that scary...
stormy83
Yes. I think no one wants to get herpes from shared lipstick no thanks. People just don't know.. smh it's terrible
cecibel7
Read about this. The thing that gets me is why did she use her friend's brush when she was aware that her friend had a staph infection on her face? Sharing make up is just a big NO!
bellasbeauties
@cecibel7 , that's not a very nice comment. Sometimes we have to learn as we go. That's why I have this up as a listing. Women don't realize there's absolutely no possible way to sanitize make up. Unless you buy it brand spanking new...

OH FINALLY SOMEONE POSTED ABOUT THIS, I SEE THIS CONSTANTLY AND END UP EITHER KINDLY TELLING THEM WHY ITS NOT ALLOWED TO SELL USED MAKEUP, EYESHADOWS IN PARTICULAR EVEN IF IT SAYS IT HAS BEEN SWATCHED, OR I JUST REPORT THE LISTING IF THEY GET DEFENSIVE OVER NOT CARING THAT THEY CAN CONTAMINATE SOMEONE

I have a question? So, if you go into say Ulta, and want to try on a shade of
Lipstick, is that something you shouldn't do? Even if it's say "sanitized?" Also if you were having a make up artist do your make up, and they do others we all kno, and they tell you they've sanitized their make up kit-is that a stay away from too? I'm trying to do the right things, but don't want to offend anyone doing it. Is there a make up artist who can answer this?
cherryblast
I didn't realize you could get herpes from a lipstick now I'm scared to even try on anything at a make up store or have a MUA do my make up ever.
bellasbeauties
@cherryblast , I hope that didn't scare you too much. But everyone thinks you can sterilize make-up. It's just not true... Ladies think you can share make up. Just think about it. We shouldn't let anyone share make up. It's just not a very good idea. If you go to get your make up done, bring your own make up and have who ever use your own. Same thing with nail polish. I hope I helped you understand what I was trying to get across. Have a great week. Bella
cherryblast
No it didn't scare me too much it just really made me think. I've seen this post before and it's really made me rethink what I sell and what I buy. And question things. Hope this makes sense. You seem like an awesome person I'd like to get to know!!
nikler
Omg is this story true? Im sorry but i have always thought it not right to sell used make up. Gross. There have been too many times where i have had to stop myself from typing JUST THAT- GROSS, underneath some ppls listings. I think its so unsanitary, would these people share a drink with someone they dont know? Its kind of the same thing. Yuck. Yes all, please stop selling and buying used makeup
fabloot
May I copy/share this listing? The subject makes me want to slap somebody! Cosmetics have a porous surface and cannot be sanitized by any means! Sorry but some have no common sense! And listing as NWT because they were only used once is still USED! Personally, I never buy makeup hrre. You just never know. As a 25+ year career Esthetician I have seen it all. Use your brains ladies!
bellasbeauties
@fabloot , be my guest and thanks for asking.

I can only take 4.00 off. No wiggle room.
simrez
To be fair, the woman in the article used her friend's makeup brush to cover a pimple...knowing that her friend had staph and she contracted staph from the brush. A simple cleaning with isopropyl alcohol and air drying the brush would have killed the staph and kept her from getting it. I'm not saying it isn't kind of gross to buy and use used makeup...but, it was because she didn't even attempt to disinfect the makeup brush she used prior to using it.
bellasbeauties
@simrez , actually this is the reason why I put it up, hoping others will stop buying or using old make up or using a friends make up. Seeing what can truly happen is why I put it up. But I don't think you're right in the way you're talking about the girl in the wheelchair. Do you think if someone told or explained this could possibly happen, she would've still used others things. I don't blame her as no one really tells women about used , dirty, or simply old make up.
bellasbeauties
@simrez come on seriously you still can't really clean makeup brushes. No matter what you say, alcohol still wouldn't kill anything deep in these brushes. I think you're wrong. No need to blast her I think she found out the hard way. I'm disabled too but due to a horrific accident that put me in the hospital for a year as well as 100 operations.
simrez
@bellasbeauties well, you're coming off a little rude. I was in no way trying to be rude...I was just stating the facts of what actually happened to this girl that you posted in the picture. Again, I in no way condone buying, selling or using used brushes...which I stated in my comment. Isopropyl alcohol does kill the surface bacteria on the parts of the brush that touch your skin and can cause infection.
simrez
@bellasbeauties If you were to swab your personal un-shared blush, mascara, lipstick etc. and put the swab on a Petri dish to grow over night it would have a plethora of bacteria. If you were to sanitize those items with isopropyl alcohol, air dry them and then swab and grow the culture in a Petri dish the amount of bacteria would be greatly reduced.
simrez
@bellasbeauties I understand why you posted it, and I'm AGREEING with you that people should NOT share makeup brushes. This woman was stupid for sharing a makeup brush knowing her friend had staph. That's just poor hygiene.
simrez
@bellasbeauties I guess I just don't understand how you being disabled is relevant to her getting staph which turned to mersa? Are you just saying the universe is fickle and anything can happen? Long story short, yeah, don't buy makeup brushes...but if you do have to share a brush or product, sanitizing with isopropyl alcohol will greatly reduce your chances of contamination.
bellasbeauties
@simrez , I'm not. Being rude your first comment wasn't really unwarranted . You're just an ass and don't quite understand so now you're blocked
kriss10fashion
Well, I've been told it (used eye shadow)is sanitized before selling by a PM sellers. I said how do you sanitize your items? This was an UD eyeshadow 'swatched' pallet she was selling. She said spritzes with alcohol, just like the Mac counter does. She is a PMA. There are hundreds of these closets on here, you report it & nothing is ever done about it. Until some lawsuit happens, the $$$ is gonna keep rolling in.
bellasbeauties
@kriss10fashion , it doesn't hurt to share this to make others aware. I've gone as far as asking Dr's and Nurses they all say the same thing, there's no way possible to really sanitize make up. If you use your own and its old, the same thing can happen. That's why they say DONT USE OTHER PEOPLES MAKE UP. HEY IM NOT PLAYING WITH MY LIFE . I'm already disabled from a accident as a teenager. I don't need anymore headaches from unclean make up.
kriss10fashion
Check out my friend Heather at canarygreen.
bellasbeauties
@kriss10fashion can you tag me to her closet, I can't seem to pull up her closet, or put it here but you have to put the (@) symbol in front of her name.
kriss10fashion
If you go to find people, just key in canarygreen. all together, no spaces. 1st pop is heather. she had quite an amazing personal story & a bundle of knowledge, plus a sweetie. We talk all the time.
bellasbeauties
@kriss10fashion. I know how to look people up but they've changed something , that's why I asked if you'd just put the @ in front of her name.
bellasbeauties
@kriss10fashion I was able to find her using my iPhone instead of my iPad.. I didn't see anything about her story.
kriss10fashion
If you go right to Heathers PM page she has numerous headers. She IS the bug lady & has written her book. Under her PM Ambassador header, I thinks she has some info. Also, she has a bug lady header, amongst other items & causes she advocates for. She has a fascinating personal history of growing up. I think you would enjoy her story.
bellasbeauties
@kriss10fashion I'm sure I would, I've always wanted to write a book. About pulling threw and living after my accident. I wouldn't know where to start. I'm always told you should write a book.
kriss10fashion
Maybe contact Heather, she has been on national TV, with her condition, she said. Best of luck to you!
bellasbeauties
@kriss10fashion maybe you could tag me to her closet.

@jwittich people think you can sterilize makeup, it’s just not true. Once your finger or brush touches it, DONE ✅! I’m so disgusted that people think it’s ok. I’d never use anyone else’s makeup. EVER! Think about our eyelashes and why we have them, then remember it has nothing to do with cleanliness, yes gross but we all have these microscopic buggies in our lashes.
bellasbeauties
@jess9316 it’s not being paranoid, it’s being smart and using your brain!

@poppypetalsbtq yes, you’re absolutely right, there’s no way to sterilize makeup. We even as clean as can be, all have little mites, yikes nasty but true. After opening a mascara it should be tossed after 90 days, I work for myself . Younique products
bellasbeauties
@poppypetalsbtq , I really can’t understand why or how people think you can sterilize it. Posh has changed so much. I’m kinda disliking it. I liked it better when it was only women we need something just for us. I figured I’d put up my extra stock.
