Women's Whiting and Davis mesh handbag. This gorgeous vintage evening bag was made by a company founded in 1876 with a history of creating glamorous designs for women. This style of bag began in the 1930's, but after researching the history and advertising of the company I found an ad from the 1970's with this exact model bag. Featuring a beaded enamel "alummesh" that is white on the outside, and gold on the inside that creates a flickering gold shimmer as the bag moves through the light. Has an art deco gold tone metal filigree frame with a "kiss lock" on the top of the purse. With a brass chain link strap wristlet to carry this dainty bag. Has a satin inside lining. Perfect to use as a bridal bag. Made in the USA. Due to the age of this bag there are a few flaws, but they are not noticeable from afar, and the utility of the bag is still good. The brass chain is sewed with white thread to the purse on one side, and on the other side the link is open a bit and needs to be pressed closed. The side with sewn attachment could be replaced with a new link maybe taken from a broken piece of jewelry? Also the inside liner has come undone on one side at top, but could easily be glued or hand stitched back on. Compare two pictures of inside liner, where one side is intact and the other side is pulled away. The liner inside does have a bit of yellowing, but is otherwise clean.
