FUN FACT: An untipped tie is quite simply a tie where the blade or tongue of the tie has no lining on the inside. Instead, it's finished with stitching, and you can often see the canvas on the inside as it's exposed. This style of tie would've been quite usual back in the 1920's when ties were worn underneath waistcoats, and the blade of the tie wasn't seen as that important.
