@jomeem I love it! My mother-in-law does this! She says it means your purse will never be without money! And when you get a new car, she throws a bunch of change in the trunk and on the seats plus tucks St. Christopher into the driver's visor! Knock on wood been driving 35 years and all's intact!

My Mom always did that too and I continued the tradition with my daughters, and with any bags or wallets I sell. Years ago I made her a quilted wall hanging for her 80th birthday - I had my husband drill a hole in a shiny penny so I could sew it onto the quilt.

I was always told something similar. When you put a purse away at the end of the season or until the next dressy event always leave a penny in it as a promise you haven’t forgotten it. I’ve sold a few as well and they always have one in the pocket. So far, only one recipient noticed and commented on it that she too had heard about this lore. Happy Poshing!

My Grandmother always did the same thing. If we got a new Easter purse, or a clutch for a dance, the first thing I would do is look for that shiny penny. Somehow I knew I was going to have a great day. Now that she has passed, I find pennies everywhere. When I sell a purse or wallet I always include a penny to pass on her tradition. ♥️💋♥️💋.

We have another tradition handed down through my grandmother's family. When you give someone a knife/set of knives as a gift, they must give you a "piece of silver" for good luck BEFORE it is received. The coin could be of any denomination, but has to be silver.

For a while when I sold items from my closet, I.e. pants, etc...I put a penny in the pocket with a note saying for “good luck” but I never got a comment on it! Anyway, it’s the thought that counts, huh?!

I do this!!!! ❤️❤️❤️. I have always heard it is bad luck to hand off a wallet, purse, coin purse etc without giving something inside!! Sometimes I will leave a dollar in there so they don’t miss it!! 🌸

What a beautiful thought! How about nickels and dimes? I find Rhodes all the time. Lol. My lucky numbers are 5 and 10 though 😉.

I absolutely love that you put this up here. I do the same. Each purchase of a purse or wallet (or gift) also receives a penny and I include why in my thank you cards. This tradition was passed down from my mother as well and I received the bag addiction I have from her too. 😉💗👜

What a beautiful idea and tradition!! I like to make my own “fortunes” on tiny pieces of paper which arn’t fortune telling they are quips, idioms, and curt affirmations/reminders that will fill the reader with positive energy and release negative.

Omg! I thought my mom was the only one who did this. Anytime I sell/give a purse or wallet to someone I put a penny inside. My mom would say it was bad luck so she would always put a penny inside.
