Beautifully illustrated book (105 photos) of Henry Ossawa Tanner's paintings from the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Published in 1991 as a catalog of the traveling art exhibit of Tanner's work.
Henry Ossawa Tanner (1859-1937) was an African-American painter from Philadelphia, trained at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and in Paris at Academie Julian. His career was inspired by his world of both a child during the Civil War thru to a senior during the Great Depression- all of that history painted as a gentle protest and a dream for a better tomorrow.
