Elegant Christening Gown by Phyllis Baby Wear. Comes with 4 pieces.
Christening gowns have been in the christening ritual of baptism since the 18th century. Before this time infants were wrapped in swaddling clothes which prevented the baby from any movement.
17th century came about which meant the child had to be fully submerged in water, so there garment would now need to be easily and quickly removed. During this time infants wore gowns that resembled ladies dress; long with petticoat worn underneath.
The more intricate and elaborate the outfit meant a higher social status. One faerie that did remain the same was the color white. White symbolizes purity and innocence.
Many christening gowns were hand made and passed down from generation to generation.
Note: There is damage to the box. I taped it for for now in all 4 corners. Also some tears rip/staining to box itself. Overall dress in fair condition.
