The New Zealand brushtail possum is about the size of a large cat. About 80 million of these nocturnal marsupials cause enormous ecological damage to New Zealand forests and birds. Their fur fibers are thin and soft, and hollow inside like polar bear fur. The fibers each capture a pocket of air, making their fur very light as well as highly insulating.
