This pre first edition is inscribed by Bill Wilson with authentication from Rareandsigned.com certification number R&SD30449611. (1948) Pre first edition because it was printed before Hazelden started publishing it in the 50’s. Richmond Walker, who had gotten sober in May of 1942 first assembled the material on small cards which he carried around with him to use in his own prayer and meditation. But in 1948 members of the AA groups in Daytona persuaded him to have this material printed in book form so the rest of them could use it too. He had some copies printed, but the demand for the book quickly began to spread outside of the Daytona Beach area. Richmond distributed them from his basement. In later printings Richmond added “compiled by a member of a group in Daytona Beach”. Rich was extremely humble and wanted no recognition for putting this together. It also says in there please address all inquiries concerning this publication to the publisher as it literally was put together and was in need to be proofread and corrected in some places which are still in this book. This book is not revised. There are so many differences in this copy and the ones being printed today. What makes it special and rare is that Hazelden is not printed anywhere on the inside or outside of the book and there is also not a date present. This book became the second most popular book in AA history. This book alone is rare but to be inscribed by the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous is something else.
