Two industry veterans, Demetrius Tatum and Shawn Solomon, founded Publik Trust in 2012. Both have over 15 years experience in the field, playing a combined major role in creating the Jordan brand at Nike and working with various names like Rocawear, New Balance and Parish. Demetrius also oversees The Preview trade show in Atlanta and was a fashion advisor to artist Young Jeezy in recent years. “The Publik Trust customer is fashion forward, hip and cool,” describes Tatum. “When everyone zigs, he zags. He’s a man big on our core values of trust and loyalty.” The brand’s talisman, an elephant, was chosen because it “symbolizes strength, longevity and a trunk up for good luck,” Tatum adds. A taste of the world for the streetwear enthusiast can be found in Publik Trust’s upcoming collections. The current Spring 2014 line is an ode to the vibrant colors of Mumbai, India. Summer sees inspiration derived from the beaches of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, while Fall introduces the line’s first full top and bottom collection with twill pants, jackets, sweaters, woven and accessories built around an African safari theme.
