When Domenica Dolce and Stefano Gabbana decide to do elegant, they absolutely nail it—transcendent Italian tailoring, unbelievable fabrics, figure-worshipping silhouettes, and yet they still manage to have the signature D&G charm thanks to their rich colors, patterns, and textures. This divine confection of a frock is a perfect example. The silhouette is a classic fit-and-flare, 50s-inspired full circle skirt but thoroughly modern thanks to the volume in the sleeves and the midi length, and makes your waist look teeny. I’m 5’3” and it hits me about 5” above my ankle, though hard to tell in mirror selfies. The fabric is the real star of this show though—it’s hard to describe, but it has major structure. It feels like an ultra-lightweight horsehair mesh, semi-sheer but structured. The dress has a silk, lace-trimmed slip dress included though, so the fabric doesn’t lay against your skin, the dress is perfectly pleasant to wear! Over the structured mesh is the most delicious velvet burnout pattern of monstera leaves all over the dress, the hallmark and signature print of Dolce & Gabbana’s legendary Spring/Summer 2020 collections, one of their most wildly popular of the last decade. It’s a 44IT, which is a 6/8 in US. The fabric has no stretch, so definitely check your measurements. My waist is about 29”, and bust is about 37” and this fits me almost perfectly. I bought it new from Dolce & Gabbana, the tags are still on it for $5,595. I love it but just haven’t worn it!
