Extremely rare hardcover first edition children’s book written and illustrated by Elizabeth Enright. Enright, whose uncle was Frank Lloyd Wright, was a distinguished author of children’s books and received the Newbery Medal in 1939. Published by Farrah and Rinehart Inc in 1940, this book, “The Sea Is All Around Us” is a delightful and vivid story of a 10 year old girl who has lived her whole life in the Midwest and has never seen the ocean. She is sent to live with her Aunt on Nantucket (called Pokenick Island in the book) and discovers a fascinating new world. Beautifully illustrated. 124 pages. Great for the collector or anyone that enjoys vintage books! Book is in excellent condition with no tears or markings (other than price of $2.00 written in pencil). Some light yellowing on the endpapers. Dust jacket has some wear and tear but is intact. (See photos which are part of this description.) From my personal collection in a smoke free and pet free home.
