Rare Issey Miyake Original Pleats Skirt from early 90's Tokyo

Prior to launching his Please Please brand in 1993, Japanese avant garde clothing designer Issey Miyake experimented with pleats and volume in his clothing line in the late 80's and early 90's. This unique and elegant skirt is from that era, purchased in Tokyo. It is pre-owned and vintage but only was worn a few times and then stored in a garment bag in smoke-free households. The matte black fabric is a bit hard to show to best effect in photos, but the front is a 3-tiered pleat, and the back is longer with a very full kick pleat that falls from the waist. The waist is small even by Japanese standards. It truly is a statement piece that could be worn on the red carpet or to a museum gala event.
