Rare Nipon Geisha Girl Lithophane Porcelain Cup & Saucer "Yamada Japan" 1 Set So detailed!! Geisha Girl shown on the inside of the cup, transparent and very thin Porcelain China. I have an extra saucer for sale if interested. Approx: Cup 4" round x 2" tall Approx: Cup 2.3 oz. Saucer 5 1/2" round 3 oz. Each piece signed Yamada (the city) Japan and Nipon (Nippon is usually spelled Nippon. A little History (Porcelain with a face of an oriental woman seemingly impressed in the bottom of what appears to be only their cups. The picture impressed in the porcelain is a "Lithophanes". This type of design was made in Japan between the late 1930's and into the late 1950's/early 1960's, mostly for export.) That info controdicts the time line with exports(A general rule of thumb to follow for marked pieces of geisha girl porcelain is as follows: vessels marked “Nippon” dated between 1891 and 1921 and items marked “Japan” or “Made in Japan” post-date 1921 (Litts 1988:58).
