OBAMA / YES, WE CAME, a hard-to-find Cuban screen-printed poster, designed and hand-signed by award-winning Cuban painter, illustrator and graphic artist Arístides Hernández (known as ARES). This screen-print commemorates Barack Obama’s historic March 2016 trip to Havana, the first by a sitting U.S. president to Cuba in more than 80 years.
This brilliantly colorful graphic—stamped, hand-signed and numbered by ARES (born: 1963) —depicts Obama in Havana’s Plaza de la Revolucion, wearing a traditional guayabera shirt with a Cuban cigar in his pocket. Obama’s trip followed the restoration of U.S.-Cuba relations after 50+ years.
The title of the poster -- YES, WE CAME -- is a play on the Hispanic rallying cry SI SE PUEDE….or YES WE CAN, which became a campaign slogan for Obama during the 2008 presidential election.
The poster offered in this listing was screen-printed in Havana by ARES in 2016.
Provenance: It was purchased in the harbor square area of Havana from a vendor while on vacation.
ARES can be found in prominent collections worldwide. One graces the entryway to the famed SAN CRISTOBAL restaurant, where Barack Obama dined with his wife and daughter during their three-day Havana visit in March 2016.
Hand-signed by ARES, has won 100+ international awards for his imaginative work.
Size: OBAMA poster (which measures 27.5 x 19.5 inches).
Never displayed or hung - kept in a poster tube. Stored in a home free of pets and smoke.
