Rare Original Vintage Glitter Snow Babies Ornament Figures Set of 8

A wonderful vintage set of 8 snow babies, rare set of Christmas Holiday Collectibles. These are one of the most adorable bisque snow baby pieces. Measuring from 1.8" to 3.6". All original, so delightful. Snow Babies, small porcelain figurines that resemble children in snowsuits, have a history that can be traced back to German confectioners in the 1890s. German confectioner Johann Moll created Snow Babies as reusable cake toppers based on sugar dolls used for Christmas decorations. The birth of Marie Ahnighito Peary, the first non-indigenous child born in the far north, in 1893 coincided with the release of Snow Babies. Her mother, Josephine Peary, wrote a book about Marie titled The Real Snow Baby in 1901, which helped popularize the figurines. Production Snow Babies were originally manufactured by Hertwig and Company, but other German factories soon began producing them. Production was halted during World War I, but resumed after the war. The figurines became popular in the United States and England, where they were used as Christmas decorations. Beautiful vintage condition, please see photos.
