This tribute gold-plated reproduction cameo proof gold coin is of the rare 1831 Octoganol California 65 dollar piece. The gold piece is a faithful replica of the original which goes for hundreds of thousands of dollars. The coin is actually bigger than the old silver dollars and is housed in a protective display case. When I photographed the coin I tried to capture the proof-like mirror surface. Though this is a reproduction it has great instructional value in the field of rare gold coins. The outer rim of the coin reads "Augustus Humbert United States Assayers of Gold California" Buyer will pay 1 pound shipping. Delivery confirmation provided at no extra cost. Enjoy!
Here is some more info:
"The $50 gold pieces issued by the United States Assay Office of Gold in San Francisco in the early 1850's were not actually coins per se. Rather, they were called "ingots" at the time. Their real value, besides that stated on their face, was in standardizing the jumble of over-valued, underweight, and off-purity private issues prevalent at the time. Nowadays, the $50 slugs are among the most popular of all California gold pieces.
