Rare Vintage Issey Miyake Convertible Coat-to-bag from 1987 Tokyo Runway Show

This Issey Miyake Faux Fur Coat is truly a piece of art and a bit hard to describe! It was part of a collection created for Japanese designer Miyake's '87 - '88 Fall/Winter fashion show in Tokyo. It is a heavy, lined faux fur that has been treated with some kind of wax to create a surface that looks almost like wet tar. The color is a deep dark eggplant black. It has modified dolman sleeves ending in thick folded cuffs. The fit is oversized, and because it is a runway sample, it is model-sized for a tall person. I'm 5' 4", so on me it's a 3/4 length coat but on a taller person it falls just below the knees. Accordingly, the deep pockets are low on the coat for me but still usable. An amazing feature of this coat is that when folded inside out, the lining has a zipper and the coat turns into a bag with handles. It's wonderful for flying from Los Angeles to cold places -- I used to stuff my other things into the fold of the bag as my carry-on, then open the bag into a coat once I'd arrived. This is a very rare piece because they weren't mass produced. I recently saw the same one sold for $2,678 so I am offering a very good price for this one of a kind art piece, wearable by any gender!
