This Masterpiece is....A Masterpiece!
I will not bore you with the history of the late Morton Myles, except to say that he was an American designer who became prominent when Jackie Kennedy wore his fashion forward pieces. The Vintage Fashion Guild does not provide a sample of a similar label so it is difficult to definetively date this piece (for a novice such as myself, anyway); however, after scouring the internet I can only find one other listing with a similar label and it is dated as his earlier work from the 60s. Any expert input is welcomed.
The last two photos show the only damage that I am able to see: a small thread pick on the satin belt and a few holes (moths maybe?) on the bottom hem-these are not visible on the outside. The belt has multiple snaps and hook closures that are still snugly sewn. The bodice and arms are showered with multicolored stones; here again I am no expert but the stones do not feel like plastic. Given Myles' cost consciousness I cannot imagine any material more elaborate than glass. The gown is fully lined, though I am not certain of its fabric content, nor the outer layer's content. May be a viscose blend but I am not sure.
The waist measures 14" at the belt sash, length is 58" from neck/shoulder to hem, and arms are approximately 22".
