Rare Vintage Pedro Chavez He was one of the master potters from Jalisco,  TONALA producing pottery in the early to mid century in Mexico A Petatillo clay Coverd Bowl, Pot in excellent vintage condition. This kind of pottery is known as "petate" or "petalillo." The pottery is painted before the first firing at 900C for 5-6 hours. Then it is glazed and fired a second time creating the esmalte appearance. There are examplea.of this style of pottery in Museums throughout the world including the Museum of Art in Tucson. This piece is museum quality. The is one small chip on lower rim, not visible when upright. There are minor and  typical areas of clay of thin glaze Measures approximately 6.5"  to top with lid 5.75 to top of pot without lid 7.5 " handle to handle The sgraffito is amazing, depicting flora and fauna. There are birds, a rabbit,  squirrel and deer. Very detatailed crosshatch and other decorative Accents Rust, brown, green and cream colors. Stunning and rare! Stamped mark on underside. I live in a smoke free home
