The 1955 edition of the Parker Brothers abstract strategy game called Bantu is an intriguing find. Although it shows some aging, it remains in remarkable shape. The game doesn’t rely on dice or spinners; instead, each player holds four numbered pawns that move based on their assigned numbers. The circular track has four lanes, with interaction and crossing over between them. The fastest pawn (number 4) must travel the full distance, while each successively slower pawn covers one-fourth less distance than its predecessor. Pawns cannot jump over others or occupy the same space. The first player to bear all pawns off wins! 🎲🏁
This is the earliest known racing game that does not use dice for the engine, or even contain any elements of luck (according to Parlett and others). A 2nd edition was never published. It was reviewed by Phil Orbanes in Games and Puzzles Magazine #68 under the heading of "Great Games that Never Made It."
This is a great, unique game that should of made it big!
