I just watched the show and the lady is pushing plated silver trying to say it is real because it's Marked 925. I would just like to make people aware that there is a lot of fake marked silver out there. a mark doesn't mean much anymore when you buy something you need to take it to somebody to have it tested so you do not get ripped off. as a silver collector myself that's something that really bothers me. that is why I test and guarantee all my silver

honeydz Love your closet! I wish I could test my stuff, but I just can’t get a definitive enough answer on silver to feel comfortable listing as such. The acid gives me a headache so I just don’t test unless it’s marked gold and I plan to sell as such. And Sometimes if it actually reads “sterling”. But you are right! Seems like everyone just throws that 925 stamp on everything. TY for your knowledge!

barbiedull0707 @honeydz you have some really beautiful things 😍 gold is hard to test because you have to file it to test it. if you get a glass block with silver tester is really easy. you just rub the jewelry on it and it only takes all acid.on the glass. sometimes you can tell just by rubbing the pc on the glass.

barbiedull0707 @honeydz I was buying off a pawn shop & relize I was getting fake silver from them. now there is so much of it out there🙄 and most ppl have no idea its fake. my son started collecting silver dollars & some of those are fake too. it's crazy🤪 🥰

honeydz @barbiedull0707 a glass block? Where can I get? And just get the regular silver testing acid? I have that stupid black “stone” I can’t read a dark red on that silly thing. Lol. I end up getting too close and burn my eye out from the acid. Lol But this glass stone you speak of might help!

barbiedull0707 @honeydz yes black stone what I use, it's glass even though it seems like stone. you just need a tiny bit of acid. it shouldnt smell or make you sick unless your using alot🤣 watch some YouTube videos. it will react pretty quick. after awhile you'll get the hand of it. it's only good for a couple months then it goes bad.

barbiedull0707 @honeydz once you get the hang of it,sometimes you won't even have to test some stuff. once you rub it on the stone you'll be able to see if it's pinkish you'll know that it has a lot of copper in it so it's not Sterling so you wouldn't even have to test it. you'll know by the pinkish color of just scratching it on the stone that it's not worth testing

honeydz @barbiedull0707 ah! I bet that’s part of the problem. I need new acid. The last bottle I got actually was cracked on top. 🙃

barbiedull0707 @honeydz you're probably right I would get some new one maybe it wasn't changing any color at all that's why you couldn't see it red I used to buy a bunch at a time and then I realized it didn't work cuz I always test something I know it's sterling ,against every other thing I test so I am able to tell pretty quickly.

barbiedull0707 @honeydz and once you're done testing make sure you clean your glass good to get everything off of it. I just run mine underwater and rub it off with a cloth

honeydz @barbiedull0707 thank you so much for the information. I have tons of pieces sitting aside I’ve been wanting to test and try to sell, but didn’t want to accidentally falsify information. I sell huge “junk” to wear lots on other sites/venues and I know I’ve had precious metal in them 🤦‍♀️.

barbiedull0707 @honeydz no problem I run a magnet through everything first. cuz if you sticks you know it's not gold or silver. some of the so-called silver overlay stuff when you rub it you can start seeing the pink copper coming through and it doesn't damage the jewelry. Gold's the only thing you have to worry about cuz you actually have to file it to know if it's gold or not. or sometimes you could drop the acid on it but if it's not it'll eat right through it

honeydz @barbiedull0707 . I think you are right about the acid being old or bad. I actually do the magnet check sometimes.But again, if it’s silver or gold plated it won’t attract so I get frustrated. Sometimes I just start throwing that stuff in one of my junk boxes anyway because I’m tired of looking at it. I just have soooo much stuff! I’m hoping to get approval to go live! I’ll be doing $3 starts on my shows for quite a while just to try to unload inventory.

honeydz I’ll let you know how the new acid works. I might buy a white glass stone too, just to see if that helps. Again thank you sooo much! You probably saved my eyeball from an acid burn!! Lol

barbiedull0707 @honeydz trust me I totally understand I've been buying for 30 years at this point I'm just disgusted with myself lol. I did the thing to go live it just seems like a long hard sale to do it and my phone just shuts down on me at random times which makes it frustrating🙄. I've never seen a white stone but it could help but if you get good acid you'll be able to tell right away on your Blackstone
