coachpee @lasmada I use primer spray paint first, then hand paint them with Rust-oleum Apple red high gloss paint, then finish them with a high gloss clear spray paint. I just redid a pair of GoGo boots yesterday, they were white patent in bad shape and I painted them yellow patent.
