The original watch was given to Jackie when she was 13 in 1942 by her mother for her birthday. It was war time and you could not buy anything, so Janet Auchincloss gave her one of her own watches as a gift. The original watch was a Chopard with a brown strap, genuine diamonds and was probably from the 1930's. It required winding. In 1946, Jackie purchased a white band for it and died it red.
This reproduction, the "Merrywood Watch" is a Seiko quartz watch made in Japan, in Seiko's now closed "A" factory. Merrywood was the home of Jackie Bouvier after her mother Janet married Hugh D. Auchincloss. This was her winter home which overlooked the Potomac River.
The face of the watch is surrounded by Swarovski crystals. The numbers on the face are easy to read. The strap is approximately 8 inches long. The battery should be replaced by a jeweler.
