As molten magma starts to move towards the earths surface, it begins to cool down the further it gets from the core of the earth. This process causes crystals to form due to the oxygen, silicates and other elements that are present within the magma. Once the magma starts to cool down, it begins to crystalize and extend out, which then forms large deposits of quartz within the new hardened magma. When other elements like titanium or iron oxide are present, it tends to give the quartz different shades of color.
