Rhodochrosite Pendant on SS Bar Pin

Beautiful large rhodochrosite cabochon set in sterling silver on a sterling silver bar pin. This pendant was created by an artisan jeweler in the 1970s. He also cut and polished the magnificent stone. The pendant is stamped "sterling" on the back and measures 1 1/8" wide X 1 5/8" long. The pendant can also be worn on a chain. Rhodochrosite draws its name from two Greek words, rhodon meaning 'rose' and chroma meaning 'color. ' This legendary stone dates back to the ancient Inca civilization. Upon discovering the gem in a cave in Argentina, the Incas incorporated the beautiful pink crystals into jewelry made with silver. Rhodochrosite is known as the stone of unconditional love.
