Stunning large hand carved rosewood sago bowl. Skillfully carved by a Trobriand Islands artisan using rudimentary native tools to form a large fish with a shell eye and a delicate carving on the fins and tail. These bowls are used at rituals and ceremonies. Trobrianders are a Milanesian tribal people living on the islands of Eastern New Guinea. The bowl measures 24" x 12" x 3".
