A Toby Jug, also sometimes known as a Philpot, is a pottery jug in the form of a seated person or the head of a recognizable historic or fictional person. Royal Doulton, the famous pottery House created a serie of Character jugs in several sizes. This listing is for a jug representing the historical famous Bernard Law Montgomery (1887 – 1976), first Viscount Montgomery of Alamein. He was referred to familiarly as "MONTY". At the bottom you can find the distinctive mark in black with a lion on a crown with, "Made In England, Royal Doulton, England" and "Monty" D6202 below it. This jar was produced from 1954-1991 Size is approximately 6 1/4" tall, 6 1/2" nose to handle, by 6" wide. The handle has written the major WWII battles and countries of conflict, "El Alamein, Tobruk, Tunisia, Sicily, Italy, France, Germany. The piece is a very lovely collectible Royal Doulton ! Enjoy!
