Selenite is a form of Gypsum and is often found in large, layered deposits, often colored and made opaque due to various inclusions. When Selenite is pure with no imperfections, it will appear transparent and glass-like - sheets of Selenite similar to this piece have been used as window panes (e.g., the Santa Sabina in Rome). This particular piece is completely clear and transparent with no imperfections or inclusions. A beautiful and natural piece measuring approximately 4.5’ X 7” X .25”
