San Francisco is the motif on this 1-5/8 inch diameter antique bronze-colored bolo slide. Famous landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, the Transamerica Pyramid building, China Town, a cable car descending a steep hill, a ship representing the harbor, and numerous other buildings are depicted. The bolo cord is a brown, soft woven material with antique bronze tips. There is a copyrighted signature on the reverse, but I cannot make out the name.
● The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge that has two 746-foot tall towers and spans the Golden Gate, the one-mile-wide strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
● Opened in 1972, the Transamerica Pyramid is a 48-story modernist skyscraper and serves as office space for financial and insurance services.
● Established in 1848, San Francisco's Chinatown is the largest Chinatown outside Asia and the oldest in North America. A population of around 70,000 live in the 30 square block area.
● In 1873, cable cars were invented by Andrew Smith Hallidie in San Francisco. The cable car system was based on early mining conveyance systems and dominated the city’s transit scene for more than 30 years. Hallidie's cable car system survived the great San Francisco earthquake and fires of 1906, two World Wars, and won against political attempts to remove cars from city streets in the late 1940s and 1950s. Today, cable cars have become the worldwide symbol of San Francisco.
