Vintage Tam O'Shanter Canister Jar Cookie Biscuit
Unique Mid Century 1960s signed Pottery.
The body has a scene from a scottish poem, the lid is adorned with thistle flowers and leaves.
This is the larger of the 2 (small has sold)
It is 8.5" Tall x 8" Wide at the widest point.
The color shown is very accurate, it's a peachy beige fleck background with a peachy/orange/brown deeper glaze.
Very good condition, with no chips or cracks.
In the mid 1960's, the Scottish Poet Robert Burns’ 1790 Tom O'Shanter poem was popular and a line of canister jars and pitchers was created. These pieces depicted the poem showing Tam O'Shanter drinking at a tavern/public house and later riding his horse Meg home and being chased by a pair of witches as he tries to make it to the river bridge.
