This striking navy straw tilt fedora is composed of a tall crown which is surrounded by a short, downturned brim. The crown is trimmed with a wide navy grosgrain band which extends into two streamers at the back. The band is trimmed with tiny seashells. There its an elastic band to keep the hat in a tilted position. What a beautiful piece of fashion history, perfect to wear in warmer weather!
Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, or a combination of these.
Label: NEW YORK CREATION
The New York Dress Institute was formed in 1941 by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert as a joint venture between the clothing manufacturers of New York City and the ILGWU. The label was created by a group of well-known designers who wanted to remain anonymous and wanted to support the New York Creation label and keep it competitive with French styles of the era. The label is small, white and blue.
This hat is in wonderful vintage condition and has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
