They are extremely clean especially the insides and the bottoms. There is a little bit of scuffing to the leather on the outside but it is very minor and can be touched up easily other than that I would say that these boots are essentially like new. They are also from a smoke-free home and smoke-free environment and even have a nice leather smell to them, but no unexpected weird or funky smells at all!
