Set of Four Vintage Red Floral Shenango transferware Teacups - 1930’s
Made by Shenango in New Castle, Pennsylvania during the 1930's, this heavy duty red transferware cup was part of a restaurant set that could have fed and fueled just about anybody during its almost 100 years of life. That is the absolute joy of collecting vintage restaurantware - compiling all those fanciful ideas of all those possible places and all those possible people that this pretty little cup could have encountered.
These petite little drinkware pieces are almost one century old and still manage to charm and delight one's spirit. Even though they looks positively feminine and delicate, they were manufactured by Shenango, one of the 20th century's largest restaurantware makers. Made to be tough and to withstand all the stacking and serving and clinking and clanking that goes on in busy restaurant environments, it has retained its beauty and usefulness incredibly well over the years.
These are in very good used vintage condition. There are some chips on the bottom of one of the cups (second to last photo), but they feel smooth and glazed remains over the chips, still. There’s also some brown lines (as shown in pictures) that looks like cracks, but when you feel them, it’s apparent these are not actual cracks. Beautiful and unique pieces to add to your collection!
