Skin has three layers, the outer layer called the epidermis, a middle layer called the dermis, and the deepest layer called the subcutaneous tissue. The cells act as armor against outside damage and diseases, but will all good things in life, too much of a good thing can turn bad.

We wish they could stay that way but, of course, fate has a different route for our cells As the cell ages, that cell that was once sitting fat and happy eventually makes it's way to the top of the epidermis but it becomes flattened out and dehydrated along the way.

mizzkerri @issabot Wait, why do I feel like the life cycle of a skin cell is a metaphor for my life (except for the cell size that is, I've gone from thin to plump not vice versa :P)? On and on the cycle goes--the cells start out at the bottom all plump, hydrated and healthy, and as they get pushed to the top they flatten out and lose their moisture content which makes our skin look dull and lifeless. Woah is me, who can save our cells from this fate?!?

mizzkerri @issabot It doesn’t change the process the skin cells go through, just makes it faster. Like a drill instructor yelling at you to get moving with a bullhorn. Since the skin cells are going through the process faster, it gives them less time to lose their moisture and flatten out which means your skin cells arrive at the top, visible layer of epidermis fatter and healthier looking which means your skin looks like a newborn’s chubby cheeks.
