Frederick Haviland became manager of the esteemed Limoges, France produced porcelain wares corporation in 1961, under his father His personal autograph was a marketing special that helped to drive sales. For more than a decade Frederick placed his signature on pieces and they were presented as such for sale in fine stores. These pieces, in the Cathay pattern, are made of porcelain which is a fired mixture of kaolin and petuntse clays from Limoges, France. Haviland then exported the wares to the US where the company is headquartered.
