Launched in August 1982, the original Betacam was an analog component video format that utilized ferric-oxide tape.  The cassettes were similar to consumer-oriented Betamax cassettes, but Betacam used four recording heads — as opposed to the two heads of Betamax. Betacam provided much higher quality output than Betamax, and while Betamax failed to compete with VHS, Betacam found favor among video professionals and news broadcasters, who used Betacam for field recording. While higher quality formats were commercially available, Betacam had a major advantage: It was extremely inexpensive. By 1986 the original Betacam format had serious competition so Betacam SP was designed to overcome the limitations of its predecessor. “SP” stood for “Superior Performance,” with an improved horizontal resolution of 340 lines. This is sold as is since i don't have any way to power it up. It comes with 2 DC-8 Battery Adapters but no batteries or A/C power supply. Also has the Original Manual. It has been on the shelf for years and could probably use a good going-over by a competent technician. Guaranteed to be as described and shown. * Portable VTR with RS-422 interface based feeder capacity. * 4-channel audio * Built-in LTC, VITC, user bit generator and reader * Frame accurate back space edit * Audio/video confidence playback * Component and composite input and output * Provision for TBC connection * Built-in RF modulator * Search mode  • Weighs 15 lbs.

topnotchplunder 225 for a parts only machine, it wouldn't be worth that if it was working

robertaross @topnotchplunder I wrote that it is sold As Is because I don't have any way to test it. but that is different from a parts only machine that you know doent work at all. This machine might actually work just fine. I believe it's a rather rare device so worth the cost. But if you're actually interested, shoot me an offer offer and I'll seriously consider it.

topnotchplunder I didn't mean to come off like a jerk, I have 2 beta machines now I'm trying to repair and finding parts is about impossible I'm starting to think that if a beta machine isn't working unless it's something simple they belong in the dump 🤯

robertaross @topnotchplunder Most consumer "Betamax" recorders aren't worth much. But this "Betacam" unit is a rare, professional 4-head machine used by recording engineers and news gathering companies long after consumer Betamax died. Betcam was the most successful video format ever (see Wikipedia). Some BetaCam units sell online now for over $1,000. You can still buy the video cassettes. So, I based my price on the rarity. It's a great value, especially to serious collectors.
