Staffordshire pottery c. 1820-1837 with introduction sequence number 47. This very well modelled group, depicts a man playing a flute for a seated lady, whilst she holds the music book. The figures are dressed in 18th Century costume and set upon a grassy mound base. Details: Creator Staffordshire (Manufacturer) Materials and Techniques Pottery,Fired Place of Origin England Date of Manufacture 1820-1837 Decorated in underglaze enamels, and covered in a pearlware glaze. Height – 7.5 ” Width – 3.5” Depth – 3.5” Condition – Repair to missing mossy bocage behind Man. Wear consistent with age with some typical chips. Otherwise faced, hands and most important attributes in very good condition. Early Pearlware Staffordshire Musician Rural Pastime Figure Documentation: Schkolne Staffordshire Volume 1, p. 132 Figure 26.95 This early songsters figure group would date from 1815-1825, and it was most probably made by Enoch Wood, based on the style of the base.
