Steiff antique plush Mohair Jumbo Elephant Mid Century vintage circus toy

This listing is for the Rare, 12"+ X 15+" Jumbo elephant only. I stumbled upon him when eBay was a new thing while collecting Mid-Century dolls, and discovered this big boy in the inventory of a seller who's auction item I'd just won. I'd never seen a Steiff this size for such a reasonable price so I placed a bid in order to combine shipping with the same seller. I was pleased with how clean and fresh it was as it remains to this day. The only noticable aging is in the faded red color of his saddle, but in my opinion that is an additional mark of authenticity. Back in the day, circus toys were a hot item. There was no such thing as childrens shows, but the circus would come to town on a regular basis and the whole family would line up for the fun. Steiff is a renowned German toy company known for its high quality handcrafted stuffed animals, particularly teddy bears. Founded in 1880 by Margarete Steiff, the company became famous for producing the world's first plush bear with movable joints, which later became known as the teddy bear.
