Sterling Silver Peridot "Poison" Ring

Sterling Silver, (stamped 925), Peridot Poison ring, size 8 3/4. The faceted, marquis cut stone has a brilliant green coloration with copper highlighted leaves on either side of the bezel that highlight the stone. This poison ring has a working hinge which allows for easy opening and closing and is well balanced with a thick sterling band. Poison rings have a dark history rooted in the Middle Ages sometimes known for the purpose of slipping a little something into the drink of someone you weren't quite fond of. Poison rings are a symbol of secrecy in that you are never quite sure what the wearer was hiding. Peridot, often called chrysolite, is found throughout the world in areas that have a high concentration of volcanic activity. It can be found throughout Hawaii as it often occurs in basalt and is formed in the molten rock of the upper mantle which makes finding gem quality peridot rare. Peridot is the sole gemstone found in meteorites. Metaphysically peridot is believed to bring good health, restful sleep, and peace to relationships. Peridot is most commonly used as the birthstone for August birthdays and as a symbol of undying love and devotion, and is frequently gifted for 16th year anniversaries.
