Vintage on steroids! I don't come across these very often, so I scooped it up fast when I had the chance!
This is either a fedora or a trilby. Because the brim on this is 1.5", I'm going to guess that it's what they call a "stingy brim" fedora. (Or trilby. Dang 🥴). Call it whatever you want, but I call it a good find!
This hat must have been made sometime between the 1940's and 1960's. I think it was made popular by the gangsters of that era.
Given it's age, this hat is in remarkably good condition. There is no moth damage visible on the exterior. There may be some on the underside of the brim, but I don't find that to be a deal breaker at all.
This hat has a thin leather sweatband on the inside that has "3X Beaver" on the right side and the makers logo: "Stevens Hats - Water-Way Processed" on the other, written in metallic gold. The sweatband is closed in the back. If you gently lift the sweatband up, you will find the sizing tag. I'm not willing to lift it up to read it because it is starting to fall apart from age. I can only tell you that it's there.
The hat is lined, and has a plastic liner over the interior lining to protect it. Underneath the crest you'll see the Latin phrase, "Pro Rega St Patria", ("For King and Fatherland").
Underneath this, it says, "Pine Streeter Hats". (Likely the name of the hat shop that carried this Stevens hat).
"3X Beaver" means felted beaver fur, for its water resistant properties.
