Striped Mohair Sweater in Pastel Easter Egg Colors MCM From Italy - Hand Knitted

Fluffy MCM Mohair Cardigan Sweater in Pastel Stripes made in Italy was Knitted by Hand. These sweaters came into fashion in the 1960s when department store buyers demanded a different look to contrast with the very popular Norwegian sweaters that had become very expensive - they wanted a different look that cost less to produce. The Mohair sweaters were less time consuming to make because they were knit on bigger diameter knitting needles. They were over sized and frothy and usually made in pastel colors. This one was sold at Neiman Marcus. The tag was hanging on by one thread - so I will reattach it so it does not come off. I do not think this sweater was ever worn. It will fit a size M - L best in my opinion or will be over sized on a Small. Mohair sweaters are very warm. Good on chilly spring days when you want to wear light colors due to the season but still need to stay warm because it is still nippy out! It is a slouchy long line style - epitome of 60's Euro Chic! Several such sweaters were featured in the movie The Queen's Gambit which was set in the 1960s worn them with peddle pushers and flats and it was a great look. I recommend watching the movie because it is good and the styling is excellent. There are lots of great 1960s fashion ideas to be inspired by! I have a sea foam mohair sweater from the same era currently in my Etsy shop as well. Condition: Clean and ready to wear. Appears never to have been worn. Excellent shape!
