Large heavy 1960s English cut crystal bowl by Stuart. The Queen uses Stewart crystal in her dinning room for state dinners.
This bowl is hand blown and hand cut. The base displays exceptional cutting as it is one of the top multi phase glass cutting techniques. First the base is beveled upwards then cut with the rays. This takes about 10 hours for the glass cutter to do, hence it is not seen on many bowls.
The crystal walls of the bowl feature two types of cuts, one a clear polish and the other a matt finish cut. It makes the pattern stand out. It also gives a wonderful warm feel to the glass.
The bowl can be used on its own and it also comes with what was the optional flower top. This is made of metal.
The crystal bowl is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The flower top has minimal wear as it is exposed to water. It has minimum staining and a slight bit of corrosion. Not noticeable unless under close inspection.
Signed on the base this fine Stewart Crystal bowl measures 5.5 inches tall without the flower display top and 6.5 tall with it. Across, it measures 8 inches.
As well as the above, I absolutely love the ring this bowl makes when tapped. Nothing like the sound of quality.
A pleasurable item.
