Sulka Vintage French Lounge Suit. Light woolen plaid
Belted with tassel.
Custom tailored in 1957 by Sulka Paris as labeled inside front pocket.
Approximately Sulka Medium,
jacket is 20.5" across shoulder seams,
shoulder seam to cuff end 22.5”
trousers have 39" waist
Monogrammed MRH under left lapel (would not ordinarily show when worn)
Similar to Sulka silk lounge suit in collection at Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC (Search Sulka)

My great-grandfather lived in California and liked to collect fine clothing. He often ordered custom tailored items when he visited England, France or Italy. Sulka, which you probably know, was considered one of the most elegant men's wear designers in the world with the Duke of Windsor and Churchill as regular customers. The New York Store at that time was in the lobby of the Waldorf Astoria although it also occupied a Madison Avenue location after being acquired by the same holding company which owned Cartier and Dunhill. Sulka was especially known for its silks. It closed around 2002. ...

I have several pieces, two of which are listed. Neither, as far as I know, was ever worn. Neither has any defects or moth holes as far as I can tell. I will be happy to take whatever photographs, closeups and measurements you request but, frankly, I don't really want to bother with returns. The garments were tailored in Paris on the dates indicated on the inside pocket label. As they were tailored for my grandfather, they may vary somewhat from Sulka Medium, but apparently not by much. ...

The garment measurements are very slightly different and are from two years apart. If you might be interested in other fine men's wear, let me know and I will try to list them when I have time.
