Founded in 1969 by Robert Lurie and based in Boston, Massachusetts, Susan Bristol, Inc. operated as a sweater and knitwear designing and importing company. Its heyday was the 1980s to early 2000s when the line was carried in over 1000 shops and department stores throughout the US. Moussie Sayers designed hand knits and blouses and ran a shop called Moussie on Walton Street in London.
