This is a beautiful wood-block print framed "Pagoda of Kiyomizu Temple" signed/stamped limited edition by Tangyu (Benji) Asada (1899-1984). Engraved and printed by the Uchida Wood-Block Printing Co., LTD, in Kyoto, Japan.
Kiyomizu Temple, dedicated to the eleven-faced Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy, was first erected in 805. The present buildings date from 1633, and are under the special protection of the government as existing examples of seventeenth century architecture. The temple stands on a hillside of Higashiyama, taking advantage of the terrain, and commands a very wide view of the city.
Measurements: W 16.5" X D 0.75" X H 21" (Framed) Wood-block print 10.25" X 15"
The wood-block print may show very decent signs of wear but overall is in very good vintage pre-owned condition. This piece comes from a private collector. Similar piece for sale on the net, not my listing for $650 (photo attached).
